-- Our Purpose --

The Flying Dragons are the cross country and track & field program of the High School for Math, Science, and Engineering in New York, New York. We're a public school and as such our teams compete in the Public School Athletic League.  Boys and girls train together but race separately.

The purpose of the Flying Dragons is adolescent character development through athletic training, leadership development, public service, and interscholastic competition.

Fall: Cross Country

This is where most freshmen start--running 1.5 miles in the woods of Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Once sophomores they will run 3.1 miles races.

Mid-August to early November

Winter: Indoor Track

All winter we train and compete at the Armory Track & Field Center in the twenty different running, jumping, and throwing events that comprise track & field.

mid November to early March

Spring: Outdoor Track

The larger outdoor tracks at Riverbank State Park and Icahn Stadium are the site of our spring track & field training and races. Our school competes in all track & field events.

Early March to early June

Snow Dragons

Cross country runners not interested in short distance indoor racing train outside all winter. They compete in the 3.3 mile & 10 mile Cherry Tree race in Prospect Park each February.

Summer Dragons

Distance runners gather three times weekly all summer to prepare for fall cross country.
